Have no money and no time? Never fear – there are still simple things you can do to improve how accessible your restaurant is.
This checklist assumes that your venue has already opened and most fixtures are true to their name – fixed.
- Remove storage boxes from toilets and walk ways.
- Turn down the volume on the background music.
- Remove all sources of perfume – from scent diffusers in the toilet to perfume that staff wear.
- Replace fluorescent light bulbs with incandescent bulbs.
- Set the lighting level so you can read the menu comfortably and without squinting.
- Add cushions and curtains to act as sound dampeners.
- Speak to front of house staff to find out what they understand about serving customers with disabilities.
- Double check your venue’s information on Yelp or Google to make sure it’s correct.
- Read through the Acccessibull Principles.
