What is the thought process you use to pick your next date night spot? Do you think about the quality of the food, the type of cuisine, the price range, the ambience? Or do you think about whether there are stairs to the restaurant, a menu you can read, or a dining room that is quiet enough?
For the 20% of the population that have a disability and their friends and family, the reality is the latter.
More than half of the entertainment venues in Melbourne are reported have a low level of accessibility, according to the City of Melbourne. This leads to more than 80% of people with disability who report being disappointed or having to change their plans last minute because of poor accessibility.
This is simply bull.
But it’s not anybody’s fault. Our research found that there is very little information out there to help business owners make their venues more accessible.
